Our Story

The Misfits is an initiative aimed at helping Caribbean rugby athletes and personnel obtain international tour exposure and elite placement in the U.S. and Canada is beginning to take shape.

Our story starts with our founder, Claudius Medouze, a Saint Lucia national rugby player, who moved to Canada in 2004 and discovered opportunities. Taking advantage of this, he earned a spot on the Brampton Beavers Rugby Football Club in Ontario and played for other teams across Canada and the United States.

Having achieved success in North America on a rugby ticket, Claudius believed his counterparts back home should also be able to achieve the same success. The challenge? National teams and rugby clubs in Saint Lucia and the wider Caribbean face financial barriers to participating in scout-laden international tournaments.

To address this, in 2022, Claudius and a colleague conceived the idea of forming teams that would bring together players of varying Caribbean heritage.

The first iteration of this was a female rugby squad known as the Missfits. The players came together from various Caribbean nations to compete in the St. Lucia Carnival Rugby 7s Competition. Over four matches, they secured spectacular victories with overwhelming scoring margins of 30 or more to 0. They then dominated the finals 48-0.

Based on this success the Missfits were renamed The Misfits to support a men’s rugby team.

The new name stayed true to the original name while celebrating the unorthodox nature of the project.

The second phase of our initiative featured a 15-member male and female team competing in the 2022 Grenada Rugby World 7s. More than 30 Caribbean athletes who matched our criteria were enrolled in a training programme.

Since then, The Misfits have been successful in several tournaments and have gained popularity among rugby communities throughout the region. Our high-level rugby talent is representative of Caribbean nations like Barbados, St. Lucia, Jamaica, Guyana, Martinique, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Trinidad, and Grenada.
